Common Questions About Appraisal Options
Is a Kelley Blue Book value the same as a certified appraisal?
No. KBB provides algorithmic price estimates based on market data — useful as a reference, but not a certified document. Insurance carriers, banks, courts, and estate attorneys require a signed, certified appraisal from a qualified appraiser. A KBB value will be rejected for insurance agreed value, bank loan collateral, estate filings, and legal proceedings.
Why can't I use a Carfax report as an appraisal?
Carfax is a vehicle history report — it documents ownership records, reported accidents, and title events. It does not establish market value and is not a certified appraisal. It is a useful due-diligence tool, but it cannot substitute for a certified valuation document.
Can a dealer appraisal be used for insurance or a bank loan?
No. A dealer trade-in appraisal is an internal purchase offer — the price the dealer is willing to pay to acquire your vehicle. It is not a certified appraisal and is not accepted by insurance carriers, banks, or courts. Dealers also have an inherent conflict of interest: they benefit from appraising your vehicle as low as possible.
How does American Classic Appraisals compare to Hagerty appraisals?
Hagerty appraisals are primarily designed to support Hagerty insurance policies and are not independently certified for use with other carriers, banks, or courts. Our appraisals are accepted by all major carriers including Hagerty, State Farm, Farm Bureau, and American Collectors Insurance, as well as banks, lenders, and courts nationwide. We also serve vehicle owners who are not Hagerty policyholders.
What makes a local appraiser different from American Classic Appraisals?
Local appraisers vary enormously in credentials, methodology, and turnaround time. Many are not USPAP-compliant, which means their reports may be rejected by carriers or courts.
